Du quartier au désert

A research-creation project on the spiritual practices of the inhabitants of the working-class neighbourhoods of San Luis Potosí (Mexico).

Del barrio al desierto is the result of a dialogue between local communities, photography, sociology, anthropology, artistic curatorship and digital design. The project explores the limits of the relationship between ‘model’ and photographer and those between ‘informant’ and researcher, thus forging a transdisciplinary practice of photographic portraiture in which the experience of the field actors as co-authors is reclaimed.

The project was carried out jointly by the sociologist Irene Pochetti and the photographer Jean-Felix Fayolle, with the collaboration of community actors and an interdisciplinary and international research-curatorial team composed of Irene Pochetti (Université Paris-Est Créteil), Jean-Félix Fayolle (Agence Zeppelin), Paola Garnica (CONACYT), Carmen Cebrero Urzaiz (Université Anáhuac) and Guillermo Vargas Quisoboni (Chakalaka Medialab).
